Stafford Cripps Estate, location: London EC1

Lamberts Building Consultancy Department tendered for the cyclical maintenance of this late 1950s high rise housing estate and were subsequently appointed to prepare a planned preventative maintenance schedule and develop a detailed specification for cyclical maintenance. The Stafford Cripps Estate was one of the first high rise estates built by a local authority in the 1950s with three blocks – Parmoor Court, Sapperton Court and Cotswold Court.

The estate is now run by a Tenant Management Organisation (TMO) which allows residents, tenants and leaseholders to elect a management committee to oversee the estate. The works included the refurbishment of the ground floor lift lobbies which were unchanged since the day they were built and significantly run down. Porcelain tiles were chosen for the floors and walls to create a bright modern interior.

Contractors were invited to tender with Beckford Contractors Ltd appointed as the main contractor. The 32 week contract period was achieved and the works came in under budget. At the end of the project we were subsequently instructed to replace 245 doors with fire resistant doors and Beckford Contractors Ltd remained on site to complete these works at the request of Islington Council who were impressed with the quality and management of the project.
